The Tea Party Movement Adopts the Gadsden Flag as Its Standard

Originally Flown in 1775 by the then American Colonial Navy and named after Continental Colonel Christopher Gadsden, this Historic Gadsden Flag of the American Colonies, flown to protest the taking of American Liberties, has become a symbol of the American Tea Party Movement. In 2009 The Gadsden Flag was adopoted by the Tea Party Movement and the name Tea Party is in reference to the famous Boston Tea Party in 1773, protesting British regulation. The rattlesnake began to be used as a symbol of the American Colonies in 1774 and was widely used by Paul Revere and Benjamin Franklin. Tea Party activists in this century have adopted the Gadsden Flag and "Don't Tread on Me" motto to represent their protest of too much governmental regulation.
