This flag, now known as the "Confederate Flag," is actually a 20th century combination of the Confederate Battle Flag's colors with the Second Navy Jack's design. While this flag, referred to as "The Confederate Flag," never historically represented the Confederate States of America as a nation, it has become a widely recognized as a symbol of the South. It is also called the Rebel flag or the flag of Dixie, referring to the 11 southern states, which seceded from the union to form the Confederate States of America. While some see this flag as a symbol of racism, many just see it as a symbol of Southern culture and country music. For many individuals across America it is a symbol of loyalty to their Southern roots.
